Shrimp salad recipes are as fun and versatile as the cooks who create them. For this site, we've divided our salad recipes into two main pages: "bound" salad recipes and "composed" or "tossed" salads.
What's a "Bound" Salad?
"Bound salad" means any ingredient other than leafy, lettuce items, held together by one ingredient, usually mayonnaise, a thick dressing or miracle whip, and maybe a little horseradish or mustard. Think of potato salad, tuna salad, deviled eggs, and even some pasta salads. Shrimp Cocktail could even be considered a bound salad, with a little stretch of the imagination.
And a "Composed" Salad? "Tossed" Salad? Huh?
Think of any salad with its ingredients separated and arranged on a serving plate, often on a bed of lettuce or greens. That's a "composed" salad. Restaurants often serve chefs' salads often this way.
Toss those ingredients together? You've got a tossed salad. Shrimp scampi or any garlic shrimp recipe, barbecue shrimp or even just plain boiled or grilled shrimp make a wonderful centerpiece for any composed or tossed salad.
That's the 101. You'll find details on each of these types, along with preparation, serving tips and more recipes on these links:
