Asian shrimp recipes available to average cooks have certainly progressed from just a generation ago.
We have a vintage "Chinese Cooking" book, one of Time/Life publications' series that were so popular in the 1960s. It's been on our shelf for years, a hand-me-down from grandparents. When it comes to shrimp, the book's index lists: dried shrimp with celery salad, dried shrimp with cabbage, dried shrimp, and shrimp: dried.
It also offers a series of photos showing how to devein shrimp. But other than a recipe for fried shrimp balls, it doesn't offer suggestions on how to actually use fresh, deveined shrimp.
Well, we do. Our wok skills are, erm, limited, but we still love to experiment with Asian ingredients. So in this section of our site you'll find simple versions of Asian classics, and Asian-inspired recipes.
They're all easy enough for beginners or home cooks in a hurry. We've got Asian garlic shrimp recipes, shrimp balls, coconut shrimp recipes, Thai shrimp recipes, kung pao shrimp and our latest recipe adventure with Chinese fermented black beans.
We've also added cooking and prep tips to each section.
Try them out, we'll be adding contact pages soon, so we hope you'll let us know your own suggestions making these dishes!
